Duas You May Have Forgotten

Dua for the Best of Manners

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي لِأَحْسَنِ الْأَخْلَاقِ لَا يَهْدِي لِأَحْسَنِهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لَا يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Allahumma ihdini li-ahsani al-akhlaqi la yahdi li-ahsaniha illa anta, wasrif 'anni sayyi'aha la yasrifu 'anni sayyi'aha illa anta.

"O Allah, guide me to the best of manners, for none can guide to them but You. And turn away from me the evil of them, for none can turn it away but You."

(Sahih Muslim)

Dua for Protection from Severe Tribulation

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ الْبَلَاءِ وَدَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ وَسُوءِ الْقَضَاءِ وَشَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min jahdil bala'i, wa darkish-shaqa'i, wa su'il qada'i, wa shamatatil a'da'.

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the severity of tribulation, from falling into misfortune, from an evil fate, and from the malicious joy of enemies."

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

Hadith on Gentleness

إِنَّ الرِّفْقَ لَا يَكُونُ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا زَانَهُ وَلَا يُنْزَعُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا شَانَهُ

Inna ar-rifqa la yakunu fi shay'in illa zanahu, wa la yunza'u min shay'in illa shanahu.

"Indeed, gentleness is not in anything except that it beautifies it, and it is not removed from anything except that it disgraces it."

(Sahih Muslim)

Hadith on the Good Word

اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

Ittaqū an-nāra wa law bi-shiqqi tamratin, fa in lam tajidū fa bi-kalimatin tayyibah.

"Protect yourselves from the Hellfire, even with half a date. If you cannot find that, then with a good word."

(Sahih al-Bukhari)
