Duas Against Envy

Dua from Surah Al-Falaq

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

Qul a'udhu birabbil-falaq, min sharri ma khalaq, wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab, wa min sharrin-naffathati fil-'uqad, wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad.

"Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.'"

(Quran, Surah Al-Falaq, 113:1-5)

Hadith on the Harm of Envy

إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْحَسَدَ، فَإِنَّ الْحَسَدَ يَأْكُلُ الْحَسَنَاتِ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ النَّارُ الْحَطَبَ

Iyyakum wal-hasad, fa innal-hasada ya'kulul-hasanati kama ta'kulun-naru al-hatab.

"Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes firewood."

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

Hadith on Unity and Avoiding Envy

لَا تَقَاطَعُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا وَلَا تَحَاسَدُوا وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا

La taqata'u, wa la tadabaru, wa la tabaghadu, wa la tahasadu, wa kunu 'ibadallahi ikhwanan.

"Do not cut off relations with one another, do not turn away from one another, do not hate one another, and do not envy one another; be, O servants of Allah, brothers."

(Sahih al-Bukhari)
